Top cryptocurrencies in Switzerland

Not every coin is available at every Swiss provider. Here is the Switzerland cryptocurrency list sorted by availability and trading activity – and where to buy each coin in francs.

  1. 22coins at PostFinance
  2. 55cryptocurrencies at Swissquote
  3. ≈ 400coins in the SwissBorg app
  4. 455crypto products listed on SIX

If you have just moved to Switzerland and want to buy crypto, the first surprise is how much the choice depends on the provider. PostFinance offers 22 coins, Swissquote 55 by its own count, the SwissBorg app around 400 – and Relai exactly one. In practice, "which cryptocurrency should I buy?" usually starts with a different question: where do I already bank, and what can I get there?

This page answers that. It is not a buy recommendation or a forecast, just an inventory: which coins are most widely available and most traded in Switzerland, where you can buy them in francs, and what to check before you do.

How the ranking works

For twelve cryptocurrencies we checked whether eight providers accessible from Switzerland sell them directly: PostFinance, Swissquote, Zürcher and Luzerner Kantonalbank, SwissBorg, Kraken, Mt Pelerin and Relai. The basis is each provider's published coin list. Coins are sorted by the number of providers; ties are broken by The value of all coins in circulation at the current price. A measure of size, not of quality or future performance. according to CoinGecko.

Solana (SOL)

Tether (USDT)–

The other four providers are narrower. Zürcher Kantonalbank has sold only bitcoin and ether since 4 September 2024. Luzerner Kantonalbank offers nine coins, including XRP, Solana, Chainlink, USDC and USDT. Geneva-based Mt Pelerin has about 30 tokens but no Solana, XRP or Dogecoin. Relai sells bitcoin only. Yuh advertises 50 tokens from CHF 10; the full list only appears inside the app, which is why Yuh is not in the table.

A note for newcomers: PostFinance crypto requires a Swiss tax domicile plus a Swiss ID, passport, or a B, C or C1 permit. Kraken takes francs by free SIC transfer and SwissBorg by SWIFT transfer (your bank may charge for SWIFT), so any Swiss bank account is enough to fund them.

Outside our eight: the international exchange CEX.IO, operating since 2013, lists bitcoin, ether, USDT, XRP, Solana and Dogecoin among others. It offers no Swiss francs, and Swiss residents contract with CEX OVRS LLC in Nevis, which names no regulator.

Which cryptocurrency to buy? Questions, not tips

There is no "best" cryptocurrency, only the one that fits your purpose and your provider. These questions help:

Whatever the coin, the Swiss rule for private individuals is the same: crypto counts as wealth and is subject to wealth tax, while capital gains are usually tax-free. How that works is explained in our guide to crypto tax in Switzerland. If you would rather not leave your coins with a bank, the wallet comparison covers hardware and app wallets.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which cryptocurrency is easiest to buy in Switzerland?

Bitcoin. All eight providers we checked sell it, from PostFinance and Zürcher Kantonalbank to Relai and Kraken. On top of that there are SBB ticket machines, bitcoin ATMs and bitcoin ETPs on SIX. Ether is a close second; only bitcoin-only apps such as Relai leave it out.

Which cryptocurrencies does PostFinance offer?

Since February 2026, PostFinance has offered 22 coins, including bitcoin, ether, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Litecoin and the stablecoin USDC. Tether (USDT), Dogecoin, Shiba Inu and Pi are not available. Trading runs in e-finance or the app, with fees from 0.95%. You need a Swiss tax domicile and a Swiss ID, passport or a B, C or C1 permit.

Where can I buy Pi coin in Switzerland?

Not at any of the Swiss providers we checked: Swissquote, PostFinance, SwissBorg, LUKB and Mt Pelerin do not list Pi. The clearest route for Swiss residents is Kraken, where Pi trades against the euro; francs can be deposited free of charge by SIC transfer. There is no Pi ETP on SIX.

Is there a Swiss franc stablecoin?

Yes, for example Frankencoin (ZCHF), a decentrally collateralised franc stablecoin offered by Geneva-based Mt Pelerin. By market cap it is still small. Since April 2026, several banks including UBS, PostFinance and Raiffeisen have also been testing a franc stablecoin in a sandbox.

Is the best cryptocurrency the one with the largest market cap?

No. Market cap only shows what all coins in circulation are worth at the current price. It says nothing about future prices, risks or what you want the coin for. This overview ranks coins by availability at Swiss providers and by size, not as an investment recommendation.
