No cookies, no analytics, no tracking
This website sets no cookies. We use no analytics tools such as Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no social media plugins and no tracking across pages or websites. We do not build user profiles.
The data that is still processed
| Data | Purpose | Who receives it |
|---|---|---|
| Server logs | Operation and security | Hosting provider |
| Price requests | Live prices in widgets | CoinGecko, or Coinbase as fallback |
| Price cache | Fewer requests | Nobody – stays in your browser |
| Emails to us | Answering your enquiry | The editorial team only |
Server logs. When you open a page, our hosting provider's server automatically records technical data: your IP address, the date and time, the address requested and your A string your browser sends with every request, describing the browser type, version and operating system.. We need this data to run the website and to detect attacks or faults. It is not combined with other data and is kept only as long as these purposes require.
Price data from third parties. Pages with price displays or calculators, such as the home page or our guide to buying bitcoin, load current prices directly from your browser via api.coingecko.com. If that service does not respond, your browser queries api.coinbase.com instead. As with any website visit, these providers can see your IP address and user agent. To show prices faster, your browser may open a connection to api.coingecko.com as soon as a page loads. We pass no other data about you to them. They may process data outside Switzerland, and their own privacy policies apply. Our methodology explains where our prices come from.
Price cache. Fetched prices are stored in your browser's Browser storage that only lasts for the open tab and is cleared automatically when you close it. and reused for 90 seconds. The entry holds only prices and a timestamp, no personal data, and never leaves your device.
Emails. If you write to us, we use your address and the content of your message solely to reply. We do not share them and delete the correspondence once it is no longer needed.
External links
Links to other websites – authorities, providers or sources – open in a new tab. Once you visit a third-party site, its own privacy policy applies; we have no influence over it.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time whether and which personal data we process about you, and request its correction or deletion. Where the GDPR applies, you also have the right to restrict processing, to data portability and to object. A short email via the contact page is enough.
If you believe we are not handling your data correctly, you can contact the Swiss supervisory authority, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). People living in the EU can also turn to the data protection authority in their own country.
Changes
If the website changes technically, for example with new features, we will update this policy. The version published on this page applies. To learn more about the site, see our about page.
